  • There’s no presidential election today. There’s no senatorial campaign, either on the federal or the state levels. The same goes for the House. There’s not even a gubernatorial election today.

  • There’s no presidential election today. There’s no senatorial campaign, either on the federal or the state levels. The same goes for the House. There’s not even a gubernatorial election today.
But today’s election may be the most important of all. Why? Several reasons.
First, your vote makes a bigger difference. In presidential and state elections, one single vote is little more than a spit of water into an ocean tide, though important nonetheless. In local elections, there are almost regularly races in which a coin flip must determine an election.
Second, the local elections affect you more directly. Your property taxes are determined by your local city and school boards. Your potholes are fixed by local crews. You can directly see how your tax dollars are spent.
Third, the local elections are politics at its purest — a sign in a yard, a candidate ringing doorbells, word of mouth spreading through a community and candidates doing their darnedest not only to get supporters, but to get them to the polls.
There are more reasons than these, of course, but they all amount to this: Your vote is important. Your vote makes a difference. Your vote affects what happens in your community.
    Please go vote today.
