  • Nine members of the Girard Forensics team recently placed in the Iola League tournament and Parsons Invitational tournament Saturday, March 9, with four students qualifying for state.

  • Nine members of the Girard Forensics team recently placed in the Iola League tournament and Parsons Invitational tournament Saturday, March 9, with four students qualifying for state.
    At Iola, senior Breanna Hyman placed first in Oration and second in Serious Acting, both qualifying her for state. Ms. Hyman also qualified for state in Duet Acting for her duet with senior Carley Bradshaw.
    Freshmen Max Adams and Madison Hey also qualified for state with their first-place finish in Improvisation.
    Other students who placed at Iola include Carley Bradshaw, who placed third in Informative Speaking; Amber Morris, fourth in Oration and seventh in Poetry; Max Adams, sixth in Prose; and Madison Hey, sixth in Serious Acting. Cole Lara and Amber Morris placed fifth in Duet Acting.
    At Parsons, sophomore Trisha Elder and junior Alicia Vandenberg placed third in Duet Acting, and senior Travis Shank placed sixth in Humorous Acting.
    Two other GHS Forensics team members qualified for state previously this season. Heather Armstrong qualified in Prose and Whitney West in Poetry.
    State competition will be held at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka Saturday, May 4.
    With regard to the students’ overall success, sponsor Terry Wunder said, “There has been a lot of good competition this year, and everyone is working really hard. We hope to qualify more.”
