Pittsburg State receiver and 1991 Harlon Hill Award winner Ronnie West stands out for local sports fans in the MIAA Hall of Fame Class of 2013 which includes 10 individuals and three national championship teams.
West helped the 1991 Gorillas to a 13-1-1 record and the NCAA Division II National Championship, Pitt State’s first national title since 1961. During that magical season, West caught 74 passes for 1,495 yards and 14 touchdowns and he established the MIAA single-season receiving mark that season. In his junior season, West led the nation in punt returns and ranked second in kickoff returns.
West set PSU career records with 123 receptions, 2,521 yards and 27 TDs in only two seasons in Pittsburg. The Minnesota Vikings selected West in the ninth round of the 1992 NFL Draft and a knee injury derailed West’s career.
