  • The Pittsburg High School wrestling team finished 14th out of 36 schools in the two-day Bobcat Classic hosted by Basehor-Linwood on Friday and Saturday.

  • The Pittsburg High School wrestling team finished 14th out of 36 schools in the two-day Bobcat Classic hosted by Basehor-Linwood on Friday and Saturday.
    Pittsburg senior Jeremiah Jones (113 pounds) placed third, finishing 5-1 on the day. Jones pinned Noah Kennedy of Eudora in 23 seconds, won a 2-0 decision over Hunter Furnish of Andale, pinned Timmy Romero of Mountain Range in 3:24, won a 8-0 major decision over Cole Peckham of Glenwood and pinned Tyler Hensley of St. James Academy in 1:32 for third place. His only loss came in the quarterfinals to Khamin Crow of Topeka Seaman.
    Fellow Pittsburg senior Gershom Avalos (220) also took third place with a 5-1 record. Avalos pinned Trent Sluder of Platte County in 1:38, pinned Brett Cockerham of Olathe North in 2:50, won a 10-1 major decision over David Feist of St. James Academy, won a 1-0 decision over Nate Stanley of Topeka Seaman and pinned Thomas Miller of Tonganoxie in 4:35. Avalos lost by pinfall in the quarterfinals to Miller and came back to pin Miller for third place.
    Levi Kester (106) took seventh place, finishing 4-2 in his six matches. Kester won by pins over Easton Stephens of Blue Springs and Benny Deaton of Olathe South, and won a 7-0 decision over Cole Stewart of Fort Scott and a 2-1 decision over Shayn Morris of Basehor-Linwood. Kester lost by pin to Stephen Tujague of St. James Academy and to Blake Gordon of Piper.
    Jones’ pin in 23 seconds was the 17th quickest fall of the day.
    Pittsburg finished tied for ninth as a team with nine pins. Topeka Seaman and St. Thomas Aquinas each had 19 over Friday and Saturday.
