Mary Captola Alexander, 94 years old of Pittsburg, KS passed away at 9:55 am, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, surrounded by her family.  She was a resident at Sunset Manor of Frontenac.

Mary Captola Alexander, 94 years old of Pittsburg, KS passed away at 9:55 am, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, surrounded by her family.  She was a resident at Sunset Manor of Frontenac.

She was born April 8, 1917 in Carthage, MO, the daughter of Marshall Smith and Willie Ann Pugh Smith.  Mary was united in marriage to Joseph Leroy Alexander on June 4, 1938, in Carthage, MO. She was employed for 12 years at Annshires Garment Factory and 14 years at Kansas Army Ammunition Plant.  She was a member of the Opolis Christian Church and the First Baptist Church of Columbus.  She was a member of AARP and the Senior Citizens of Pittsburg.  She loved travel and spending time with her family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers Louis Smith, William “Bud” Smith, Sam Smith, Roy Smith, and Bill Smith; her granddaughter Carla Alexander; and a great-great granddaughter Stephanie Lindsay.  She is survived by her daughter Joan Wydick, son Don Alexander, and son Milt Alexander and wife Lana Alexander; brother Charlie Smith; sister Vera Richards; 17 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 25 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 27, 2012 at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg with Aaron Williams officiating.  Burial will follow at Blackjack Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26 at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home.
