Arma, Arcadia, Bourbon County and Cherokee County were among the 44 Kansas groups to receive funding through the program, which totaled $13 million, including $4,370,331 in stimulus money.
Thumbs down... to news that Americans’ confidence in the economy soured further in July. The Consumer Confidence Index, which retreated last month, fell to 46.6, down from 49.3 in June.

Thumbs up ... to the Kansas AAA American Legion State Baseball tournament being held through Saturday at Pittsburg’s JayCee Ballpark. The tournament has brought in seven teams from around the state and has helped draw much-needed economic impact to southeast Kansas.
Thumbs up... to Ed McKechnie of Pittsburg, who was recently reelected to his spot on the Kansas Bioscience Authority. McKechnie is the executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Watco Companies.
