James V. “Big Jim” Smith, 60, died Dec. 23, 2010, in Ellsworth. He was born March 11, 1950, in Fort Scott to Vernon A. and Maxine (Purdon) Smith. He was a retired stone mason, and formerly a school teacher and facility maintenance supervisor at Ellsworth Correctional Facility.

Survivors include his wife, Cindi L. (Jones) Smith of Wilson; sons Timothy A. and wife Ashley of McPherson, Cody and wife Rebecca of Salina, Cassidy of Great Bend and Clancy of Wilson; grandchildren Courtney, Amelia and Owen James; a brother Bernard Smith of Walnut; and a sister Rita Huser of Garden City.

Visitation will be 1-8 p.m., Tuesday at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth.
