  • Pittsburg ended its December schedule with a 15-point nonconference win over the Neosho Wildcats on Thursday night, 62-47.
The inside game of senior center Stefon Rich and senior forward FeDor Lomax has been the bread and butter of the Purple Dragons so far through five games and the duo came through with 34 points Thursday, Lomax 20 (tied for a game high) and Rich 14.
What made a difference in the game was the scoring of senior wing Tanner Ellis, who delivered 16 points on the strength of four 3-point shots.
When the bigs are scoring the ball inside, that opens up shooting opportunities for players like Ellis and Spencer Bernhardt and when the shots are falling from the outside, opponents might think twice about packing it in against Lomax and Rich.
In an otherwise even game, Pittsburg held court in the second and third quarters, outscoring Neosho 33-17.
Pittsburg rebounded from a 22-point home loss to state-ranked Independence last Friday and improves to 4-1.
    Neosho drops to 0-7.
