Betty Mae Lord, age 84, a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, went to be with the Lord Monday, December 27, 2010, at her home. She was born February 1, 1925, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Harrison Brown and Sarah Aletia McFarland Brown.
Betty Mae Lord, age 84, a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, went to be with the Lord Monday, December 27, 2010, at her home. She was born February 1, 1925, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Harrison Brown and Sarah Aletia McFarland Brown. She married Robert A. Lord on September 3, 1944, in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1992. In earlier years, Betty had worked in housekeeping at Mercy Hospital. Later, she worked in the mail room at the Western Insurance Company and then worked at the Garland Post Office. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, a past member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association and the Grange. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Robert Gerald Lord and wife, Vickie, Lawrence, Kansas, and a daughter, Roberta Marie Bloomfield and husband, Darrell, Garland, Kansas. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Karl A. Bloomfield, Fort Scott, Kansas, Matthew Lord and wife, Katie, Lawrence, Kansas, Lynn Shaw and husband Mike and Amy Patrick and husband, Billy, all of Fort Scott, and Lisa Lord, Lawrence, Kansas; and five great-grandchildren, Jacob Shaw, Sarah Shaw, Damien Patrick, Karlee Patrick, and Danica Patrick. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Cadzow and Ellen Davis, and a brother, Marvin Brown.
Pastor Larry Stevicks will conduct funeral services at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 30, 2010, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Emmanuel Baptist Church and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S.
