  • Mildred M. Dick, 89, of Parsons, died at 9:06 a.m., Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

  • Mildred M. Dick, 89, of Parsons, died at 9:06 a.m., Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
    She was born September 26, 1923, in Waterloo, Kansas, to Louis S. and Mary E. (Rohling) Meng.  As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Kingman County.  During World War II, she worked at Boeing in Wichita.
    On April 12, 1944, she married Lawrence P. Dick at St. Boniface Church in Sharon, Kansas.  Following her husband’s discharge from the Navy, they lived in Zenda, Kansas, for five years and, in 1950, bought a farm near Thayer, Kansas.  Through the years, she worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Fred Ronald Manufacturing Company and later Grandview Products until retiring.  In 1993, they sold their farm in Thayer.  They then built a home at Table Rock Lake near Shell Knob, Missouri, where they spent their summers and later bought a home in Parsons where they lived during the winter.  He preceded her in death on January 6, 2006.
    She was a member of the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church, now St. Patrick’s, its Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella.  She enjoyed volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul thrift shop and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and spending time at her lake home.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored.
    Survivors include:
    Five Sons – Bernard Dick and his wife, Susan, Shell Knob, MO, Melvin Dick and his wife, Patty, Independence, KS, Kenneth Dick and his wife, Kathy, Chanute, KS, Bruce Dick and his wife, Cindy, Thayer, KS, Gary Dick and his wife, Marchel, Queen City, TX; Four Daughters – Geraldine Padgett & her husband, Don, Altamont, KS, Mary Ann Helt and her husband, Steve, Mound Valley, KS, Darlene Ferguson and her husband, Gene, Mound Valley, KS, Denise Beasley and her husband, David, Altamont, KS; Twenty-Seven Grandchildren, Five Step-Grandchildren, 39 Great-Grandchildren, Five Step-Great-Grandchildren and Three Great-Great-Grandchildren; Four Sisters – Irene Martin, Harper, KS, Marie Martin, Augusta, KS, Helen Burgess, Wichita, KS, Betty Buhrman, Clearwater, KS; Four Brothers – Joe Meng,                                         Kingman, KS, Jim Meng, Severy, KS, Eugene Meng, Haysville, KS, Sylvester Meng, Kingman, KS; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
    In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Hrencher; and one brother, Victor Meng.
    The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2013, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.  The family will receive friends at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
