Why let a little detail like having only eight players affect your game, especially on a gorgeous June evening like Tuesday night at JayCee Ballpark.
Miller’s certainly did not let having only eight players available to play hurt its game and run-ruled Pepsi 13-3 in five innings of a Don Gutteridge contest.
Miller’s starting pitcher Noah Vaughn earned the win by allowing one run on one hit over three innings and offensively, Miller’s scored 13 runs on 12 hits and took advantage of six Pepsi errors.
The home team scored its first eight runs on just four hits and four errors — Luten Warrick hit a two-run single in the first and Miller’s scored five of its six runs in the second on errors and wild pitches, with only Tanner Forrest earning a RBI on a single plating Vaughn.
Pepsi scored three unanswered to cut its deficit to five runs — Josh Hayes drove in the first run with a RBI sacrifice fly (scoring Colin Coronado, who singled and advanced 180 feet on consecutive wild pitches) and Dylan Marrone provided the offensive highlight for Pepsi in the fourth with a RBI triple blasted down the left field line and down into the corner.
However, Miller’s answered with four runs on five hits and one error in the bottom half of the fourth to regain command of the contest.
Wes Jameson and Tye Cicero hit back-to-back singles, and Vaughn reached on an error to load up the bases. Forrest plated two with his single and Mason Renfro drove in Vaughn and Forrest with a single, giving Miller’s a 12-3 edge.
With two outs in the fifth and Vaughn on third, Caleb Poenitske hit a walk-off single.
Of the eight players in the Miller’s lineup, all of them collected at least one hit and either scored or drove in a run. Additionally, Miller’s stole five bases and generally, outhustled its opponent.
