What or who inspired you to become a public safety officer?

The reason why I became a firefighter was the lifestyle. Coming to work every day to see what challenges and adventures the day would bring.

What is a memorable moment you’ve had and why?

The first time I put an air pack and crawled into a burning house. I was scared to death. I didn’t know what to expect, I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face, plus dragging a 1 3/4” hose line in with me. I took a couple of deep breaths, regained my composure and my training and education took over and I was able to do by job.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about your line of work?

The hours of education and training it takes to do this job. You not only have to be a firefighter and life saver. I also need to be a teacher to children, and adults to prevent fires and what to do in case of a fire.
