  • It will be easy to remember the first name for the new publisher of the Morning Sun, because it will be the same as his predecessor.
Steve Boggs will take over as publisher of the Morning Sun effective immediately after it was announced that Steve Wade would be leaving for another position within GateHouse Media.
Steve Wade, who had been with the Morning Sun since September 2002, has accepted a position as group publisher based with the Independence (Mo.) Examiner. He will have responsibilities for papers in Leavenworth and Hiawatha in Kansas, Maryville and Independence in Missouri, Syracuse and Nebraska City in Nebraska, and Hamburg, Iowa.
“I hate leaving Pittsburg,” Wade said. “It’s a fantastic place to raise a city. Both my kids will remain in school here. The Examiner is in the same company. It’s a position of greater responsibility. I look forward to the new challenge.”
Wade will maintain a home in the Pittsburg area and will be in and out of the community.
His successor, Steve Boggs, is a native of Leflore, Okla. (population 168). He is a graduate of East Central University in Ada, Okla. He started in the newspaper business in 1982 as a sports writer, and he later edited the Ada (Okla.) Evening News for 15 years before becoming a publisher in 2000.
Boggs moved to Neosho, Mo., in May 2011 and has been in charge of the Neosho Daily News, Carthage Press, Aurora Advertiser and Greenfield Vedette ever since.
He and his wife, Christy, have two daughters, Michele, 22, of Houston, Texas, and Morgan, 19, a Crowder College freshman.
“I’m honored to be asked to continue the great tradition of publishing a top-notch community newspaper in the Morning Sun,” Boggs said. “Steve Wade has done a tremendous job here in Pittsburg, and will continue to be a resource for us in the future.”
