The question

I’m curious as to why the city leaves the pickup that scoops up all the golf balls (at Four Oaks Golf Course) parked where you always see it as you’re driving on the U.S. 69 bypass. Don’t they have some place where they can store it?

The answer
Marsha poses a very good question regarding a piece of city-owned equipment. In case you are not familiar, Four Oaks Golf Course — located at 12th St. and the U.S. 69 Bypass — uses a vehicle to ‘pick,’ or take balls, off the driving range.

Randy Dawson, manager at Four Oaks, said that the issue surrounding where the truck is stored has been brought up before.

“The shed that we have is basically for cart storage and there really isn’t any room to place it there,” Dawson said. “You have to break the truck down to store it.”

The current truck used has been a part of the course for the last three years.

“We will, generally, take an older vehicle in the city fleet and use it ot pick the range,” Dawson said. “That saves us money when it comes to doing that.”

What does this mean to you?
Dawson said that the city has discussed what to do with the truck before, but has yet to come up with an answer.

But, some options may be discussed during the upcoming winter meetings with the city.

“We are going to discuss different ways to take care of the range,” Dawson said. “We may look at getting a golf cart to pick up the balls and store it with the other carts.”

He said that another option may be to break the truck down and place it in the Four Oaks parking lot.
