A Columbus man was taken by helicopter to a Joplin hospital after an accident Thursday evening.


Close to 5 p.m. Thursday, a pick-up truck driven by Rocky Riley, 29, Columbus, was headed westbound on 530th Road just east of 190th Street when it entered the north ditch, hitting a mailbox. The car then got back on the road and entered the south ditch, where it hit a large oak tree head on.


The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, and he was taken by Eagle Med helicopter to Freeman Health Center in Joplin. The vehiccle was a total loss.
