Area events for Friday, September 26
ARMA — A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the new Arma Medical Clinic, 417 E. Washington.
The event is being hosted by the Girard Medical Center and Dr. Ron Edwards.
Gorilla Toastmasters meets at 7 a.m. every Friday at Names and Numbers.
The group, open to the public, is designed to help members improve their public speaking skills.
“Talking Heads,” a weekly discussion group using the Teaching Company’s videotaped lecture series, will meet at the Pittsburg Public Library.
Three different series are offered, beginning with “The Brain” at 9:05 a.m., followed by “History of the United States” at 10 a.m. and “Art Through the Ages” at 11 a.m. Each session consists of a 30-minute lecture followed by a brief discussion by participants.
Sessions are open free to the public. Interested persons may attend any or all sessions.
Pittsburg Senior Citizens Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. in Lincoln Center. The group will celebrate September birthdays and play bingo.
New members are always welcome. Anyone needing additional information about the club may contact the Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department at 231-8310.
Pittsburg American Legion Post 64 will host bingo night, open to the public, at 6:30 p.m. The canteen will be open.
JOPLIN — The Joplin Shrine Club will sponsor a dance, open to the public, from 7 to 10 p.m. at 1040 S. Joplin Ave. Music will be provided by the Bob Russell Band.
Doors will be open at 5 p.m., and food will be available. Admission is $4 per person. Anyone needing additional information may call 417-782-6116.
