Thumbs up... to news that Teresa and Taylor Kemp will be among 76 organ, tissue and cornea donors honored during the 2010 Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, Calif. The Kemps were killed on July 16 when a vehicle that was being pursued by a Cherokee County sheriff's deputy struck Teresa Kemp's vehicle at the intersection of highways 69 and 400 south of Pittsburg.
Thumbs down... to news that Kansas is seeing more than twice as many reports of people with flu-like symptoms than is normal at this time of year.
Thumbs up... to news that the Family Resource Center and Pittsburg State University are among the beneficiaries of the Kansas Health Foundation’s Fall 2009 Recognition Grants Program. Thumbs up... to longtime Pittsburg resident Rosalie D. Manley, who left a gift of $552,419 to the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. Manley died in March.
Thumbs up... to Mt. Carmel Home Health, which has been named to the 2009 HomeCare Elite, a compilation of the top-performing home health agencies in the United States.
Thumbs up... to Pittsburg State volleyball senior Pamela Cartagena, who was named the MIAA Player of the Year, the league announced Wednesday.
