Constance Simion Peterson passed away on February 17, 2012 at her home.

She was born September 26, 1913, the daughter of John and Sophia Simion, in Frontenac, Kansas.

She was proud to have been able to stay at home in her later years and was able to care for herself.    She was a 1931 graduate of Pittsburg High School and a 1935 graduate of Kansas State Teachers College with a degree in Physical Education.  She taught physical education at K.S.T.C. and in both Coffeyville and Pittsburg public schools.

She was an avid sportswoman and especially loved swimming, golf and bowling.    Connie was a long time member of Crestwood Country Club, the Ladies golf Association as well as her Wednesday bridge club.  She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

She married Maurice A. Peterson on September 7, 1939 in Farlington, Kansas.  Mr. Peterson passed on December 24, 1987.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and his wife Marilyn Peterson of Pittsburg, Jon and his wife Jerilyn Peterson of Mesa, Arizona.  Grandchildren are Amy (Joe) Piccini of Montgomery, Alabama, Andrea Peterson of Overland Park, Ks. Brant (April) Peterson of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Craig (Sandi) Peterson of San Antonio, Texas.  Great-grandchildren include Drew and Reed Mattson, Mason and Marin Peterson, Anthony and Paula Piccini, and Ava Peterson.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Highland Park Cemetery with Fr. Thomas Stroot officiating.  Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday to sign the register. The family suggests memorials be given to the Pittsburg Public Library or to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Memorial Fund.
