A two-car accident 1 1/2 miles south of the Arcadia turn-off on U.S. 69  Saturday morning has sent two drivers to area hospitals.
A Kansas Highway Patrol car driven by Trooper John L. Burns, 33, Arma, was northbound when it was pulled to the shoulder, then attempted to make a U-turn and was struck by a 1997 Lincoln Towncar driven by Patricia A. Burton, 47, Columbus.
The Towncar was also northbound on U.S. 69, and attempted to avoid the patrol car, a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria, by steering to the left as the patrol car made its U-turn.
Both vehicles collided in the southbound lane. The injured trooper was transported to St. John’s Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., by helicopter, while the other driver was taken to Fort Scott Mercy Health Center.
The accident remains under investigation.
