Richard A. Cowan, 70, of Oronogo, MO, passed away at 7:01 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO.

Richard A. Cowan, 70, of Oronogo, MO, passed away at 7:01 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO.

He was born May 24, 1938, at Duncan, OK, the son of Owen “Preacher” and Betty (Hayes) Cowan. He attended area schools and went on to receive his Barber Degree.

On February 22, 1988, he was united in marriage to Dee Baker at Miami, OK. She survives of the home.

Mr. Cowan was a Plant Superintendent for Heckert Construction, where he worked for 38 years.
He was of the Baptist faith.

Membership was held in Paint Horse, AKC, Pinto Horse, and American Quarter Horse Associations.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cowan is survived by his mother and step-father, Betty and Glenn Wooten of Duncan, OK, one sister, Marilyn Abernathy and her husband, H.L. of Duncan, OK, one step-son, Lonnie Osborn and his wife Heather and their children, Landon, Torie, Keylee, Kenzy, and Jordyn of Oronogo, MO, two step brothers, Donnie Wooten and James Wooten both of Duncan, OK, one niece, Robin Cook of Wichita Falls, TX, and one nephew, Randy Doan of Orange Grove, CA, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father.

Services for Mr. Cowan are set for 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2009, at the Brenner Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery, south of Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at
