Pittsburg and Girard split games in a JV and freshman girls basketball doubleheader Monday evening.

Pittsburg won the JV game 39-26 behind 15 points from sophomore post Bethanne Elliott and freshman guard Megan Gray led Girard with eight.

Girard won the freshman game 42-39 in overtime, with Kelci Murphy scoring nine points for Girard. Pittsburg lost despite 16 points from Catherine McNeely and 13 points from Marti Sinclair.

Junior high basketball

Girard Middle School won three of four games from Riverton on Monday. The seventh grade boys won 54-7, led by Eric Wilson with 19 points, and Girard won the eighth grade contest 49-48. The seventh grade girls won 31-18 with Ashley Ray scoring 14 points and Lauren Franklin 10. The eighth grade girls lost 31-24, despite nine points by Shytana Reed.

The Frontenac girls swept Baxter Springs on Monday. Frontenac won the eighth grade contest 38-12; the seventh grade contest 22-16; and the combined ‘B’ game 19-15. Kennedi Fields scored 15 points for the Raiders in the eighth grade contest.

Frontenac won the eighth grade game 47-16. Ryan Menghini led Frontenac with 11 points and Colin Coronado added 10. Baxter Springs won the seventh grade contest 35-27; Ryan Long scored 17 for the Raiders. Frontenac won the combined ‘B’ game 22-18.

The Viking boys improved to 14-1 and the Viking girls to 12-3 with their wins over the Oswego Indians on Monday.

The boys won the ‘A’ game 55-23. Troy Howard led all scorers with 15 points and Travinn Oliver and Ethan Snider added 10 and eight points, respectively. Northeast also won the ‘B’ game 27-13 with six points apiece from Gage Moore, Micah Howard and Jacob McDowell.

The girls defeated Oswego 32-30. Autumn Walker scored 16, Jaycie Polhlopek had eight and Kamryn Osborn added six.
