An Oktoberfest celebration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Broadway and Jackson.

An Oktoberfest celebration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Broadway and Jackson.

Menu will include pork roast, bratwurst, sauerkraut, German potato salad, green beans, applesauce, hot dogs, dessert and beverage. Cost will be $8 for roast pork and two sides, $6 for a brat and two sides, and $3 for a hot dog and one side, all with dessert and beverage. Carry-outs will be available.

Carnival games will also be included, with tickets priced at 25 cents.

Proceeds will be used for the Habitat for Humanity of Crawford County Apostle Build house. Zion Lutheran is participating in this project, which involves 12 Pittsburg area churches or groups of churches providing 1/12th of the cost of the house and 1/12th of the labor necessary to complete the project. The house will be located at 206 E. 25th in Pittsburg.

Country music show
FORT SCOTT —  A country music show will be presented at 2 p.m. at the Fort Scott Memorial Hall.

Special guest performers will be Wade Landry, Cajun fiddle player, and his wife Teresa from Branson. They will perform half the show, with the regular band playing for them.

The other half of the program will be provided by regular performers Dewayne Bowman, guitar and vocalist; Ginelle Esry, vocalist; Scotty Henderson, steel guitar; Gale Richey, keyboard; Ernie Reed, fiddle; Ronnie Bleacher, drummer; and Dave Owens, base guitar and vocalist.
Jason Richison will run the sound system.

Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Progressive Alliance
Progressive Alliance will meet at 3 p.m. in the Pittsburg Public Library first-floor meeting room.

Don Pyle, Crawford County clerk, will speak on the new voting laws, and the Occupy Pittsburg movement will be discussed.

Progressive Alliance is a group of citizens involved in discussion and action promoting what they feel to be progressive approaches and solutions to political and social issues. Anyone with similar interests may attend.

Legion dance
Pittsburg American Legion Post 64 will have a dance from 3 to 6 p.m., open to members and guests only, at the post home. Doors will open at 1 p.m.

Music will be provided by “DGM Trio.” Admission will be $4.50 per person.

Italian Heritage Society
Italian Heritage Society will have a dinner meeting at 5 p.m. Members attending should bring a side dish.

There will be a Halloween costume and best pumpkin contest. Anyone needing additional information may call Ron Marrone, 231-6610.

Church concert
Resurrection Bound will present a southern gospel program at 6:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Tabernacle.

The concert will be open to the entire community. A love offering will be accepted.
