GHS members of FCCLA went to Five-Mile Camp on Monday, Nov. 22.

In order to attend, members had to fill out an Adopt-A-Grandparent worksheet themed “See a Need; Meet a Need.”

Students “adopted” a grandparent by interviewing them, taking them out to eat, watching a movie, or spending time with them. Members then wrote a summary of their experience.

As a reward for completing this event, 56 of the 70 members attended Five-Mile Camp in Miami, Okla.

Once at Five-Mile, students had opportunities to enjoy all the resources the facilities had to offer: an indoor Olympic-size swimming pool, a rock wall, horseback riding, a ropes course, and a volleyball court. Lunch was also provided.

Junior Ashley Barry said of her experience, “The workers were really nice! Riding the horses was the best activity. We received our own horses to ride, each with a different name. Then we got to go on a trail ride with them; even the dog came with us.”

FCCLA sponsor Emily Bray and Principal Blaise Bauer accompanied the group.
