Thumbs up... to work on Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center’s new Cardiac Step-Down Unit nearing completion. Hospital officials this week said that the $2.6 million unit renovation and relocation would likely be completed by mid-fall.
Thumbs down... to the conclusion of JL Hutchinson baseball and Pittsburg Fastpitch softball. It has been a pleasure to watch the successes of our area youth on the diamonds.
Thumbs up... to the Kauffman Scholars program, which is currently taking place at Pittsburg State University. The program gives more than 1,300 students from the urban core of Kansas City a chance to experience college courses, with the goal of motivating students to graduate from high school and pursue a college education.
Thumbs up... to Kansas’ Education Commissioner Alexa Posny, who was recently nominated to assistant secretary for special education and rehabilitative services in the U.S. Department of Education by President Barack Obama.
Thumbs up... to all those who volunteered their time, money and efforts to helping facilitate some great local Fourth of July celebrations this past weekend.
