In the wake of Tuesday night's storm damage, classes at USD 250 and at Pittsburg State have been canceled.

George Nettels Elementary suffered roof damage during the storm, with the roof over the gym and stage area blown off. The district office and Pittsburg Community Middle School are still without power. Westside Elementary was without power until 6 a.m. USD 250 spokesman Brett Dalton said that sthere will be school on Thursday pending the return of power.

Dalton said that George Nettels is "good inside the building. We are confident everything else will be sealed up today, and the exterior will be cleaned up."

Dalton said that although the school district had already decided to cancel classes, the city had asked them to cancel for safety reasons.

"I don't think there is any way we would have had school anyway, but the city said we probably should not have school and keep everyone off the streets," he said.
