  • Girard Fire Department responded Wednesday to a fire call at  Lucky T Bait and Tackle Shop, 606 N. Cherokee, Girard.
The fire call came in at 4:07 p.m.
“As I understand it, a lady working there smelled smoke, called 911 and got out,” said Bob Sands, Girard acting fire chief.
He said that the structure was fully involved in the fire.
“It took us a while to knock it down, and part of the roof caved in, but we finally got the fire down,” he said. “Under the mutual aid policy, Crawford County Fire District No. 4 came in and helped us.”
Sands added that the shop, owned by Scottie Thomas, suffered extensive damage. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
“Nobody was hurt and everybody got home safe, and that’s the most important thing,” Sands said.
