Vernon R. (Vern) Feaster, age 82 of Joplin, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Landmark Hospital.

Vernon R. (Vern) Feaster, age 82 of Joplin, passed away at 11:10 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Landmark Hospital.
Born September 15, 1926 in Aurora, MO, he was the son of the late Victor R. Feaster and Mary Lois Julian Feaster. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1944 and pursued college courses. A World War II U.S. Navy Veteran, he served from 1944 to 1946. He lived in Joplin from 1942 to 1958, when he moved to Pittsburg, KS. He completed 20 years in sales for the Nabisco Corp. and moved to Centralia, MO in 1973 to co-own Vern’s Variety with his wife until 1985. They retired to Joplin and he worked an additional 23 years as a Missouri Tourism Information Specialist. He served as President and Assistant Midwest Regional Director with Four States Mended Hearts Chapter 146, representing St. John’s Regional Medical Center. He was also a member of Club ‘44 and the Masonic Lodge. He was a popular speaker for local civic and religious organizations with a presentation of interesting Missouri facts. He was a passionate patriot, loving husband, doting father and “Boppa.” He was known for his sense of humor, good heart, and love for his family.
On September 12, 1946 he married Ilene Stinnett in Joplin. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Vicki Rene Allen and husband Mark (Marion, IA); two granddaughters, Lindsay Brooke (Minneapolis, MN), Kaitlyn Colby (Joplin); and a grandson, Zachary Douglas (Austin, TX).
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday at Parker Chapel with Rev. Steve Grace officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Seymour (MO) Public Library, in care of the mortuary.
