Wesley House will participate in the “Feinstein Challenge” for the third consecutive year.
This opportunity is provided by Alan Shaw Feinstein, a wealthy man in Rhode Island, according to Ellie Foster, Wesley House pastor/executive director.
“Mr. Feinstein has established a foundation for the sole purpose of donating $1 million per year to agencies that fight hunger across the nation,” Rev. Foster said. “This foundation will match any donations, food or money, that are given to Wesley House during the months of March and April. Gifts of food are to be valued at the rate of $1 per item or $1 per pound.”
Donations must be received by April 30 to be included in the Feinstein Challenge. Donors should indicate that their gift is for the challenge.
“The response to the challenge in 2008 was overwhelming,” Rev. Foster said. “We received a total of $27,288 in cash and the equivalent of $17,189 in food, and I am certain we can surpass those numbers this year.”
This is more critical than ever, she added, because requests for food assistance continue to increase.
