Dear editor:
Jana Shaver is an outstanding Republican candidate for the State Board of Education for the 9th District seat.  She is a native of Southeastern Kansas, educated in public schools, graduated from Pittsburg State University and employed for 27 years as a teacher and curriculum director in Kansas public schools.

Jana is an advocate for broad-based policies that provide the foundation for quality standards and excellence in teaching and learning at the local level. She has the background, experience, and commitment to make sound decisions at the state level so local boards can tend to the business of managing educational decisions in their districts.  Jana embodies the philosophy of local experience supporting local control.  Jana is resolved to make sound decisions on standards, based upon the input and diverse opinions of constituents.  Micro-managing at the state level is not her purpose.

I urge you to support Jana Shaver in her bid for a position on the State Board of Education, whose duty it is to set policy for standards of excellence in Kansas public schools.  Vote for Jana on November 2 as it will be a vote for a quality public education for all of our students.
