Dear editor:
As an individual who votes more often on the positions a political candidate takes than to which party she/he may belong, I can no longer remain silent on what the Kansas Chamber of Commerce is doing with their ads in SE Kansas.  There are at least two separate instances where it has provided the citizens with only part of the story or truth:

1. the billboards in Pittsburg saying that our current state representative,Julie Menghini, voted for Pres. Obama’s Health Care bill is a outright lie on their part.  Yes, she did not support the state bill to sue the federal government about that the federal health care initiative.  So, they feel that it would be okay to spend state money on a law suit that may go nowhere?  What about the college students that are now able to stay on their parents’ health care insurance?

2. I received a mailed political ad from their organization saying that Rep. Menghini voted for an 18% sales tax hike and increased the state budget by $200 million.  What they, of course, don’t tell people is that the 18% is actually only 1 cent.  Furthermore, they don’t tell people that over the past two years the state budget was cut by about $1 billion and that a good portion of the $200 million they mention was to replace the stimulus money that is no longer available.

It is organizations like the Kansas and US Chambers of Commerce that are a major part of the problems that we have today and the reason so many people don’t even vote!  Their lies and partial truths are probably paid for, at least in part, by the US Chamber of Commerce which is as bad if not worse than is the Kansas Chamber!

I think it is perhaps time to start a movement to boycott any and all businesses that are members of the Kansas Chamber and let those businesses know why this is being done.

They are disgraceful!  The only positive thing about the most recent mailed ad is that it can be used in a cat litter box or recycled!
