1. Do you agree with the current Presidential Administration’s lawsuit against the state of Arizona over the issue of illegal immigration enforcement? Would you support a similar law in Kansas?

I do not support the current administration’s lawsuit against the state of Arizona. On the basis of a state’s rights the Federal government should not interfere when it fails to enforce its’ own laws. I would support a similar law in Kansas if it could be quantified better as for the enforcement and penalties. We shouldn’t look into the illegal immigrants themselves but the causes which prompts them to come to Kansas. It is the causes which should be eliminated.

2. This year a law went into effect banning smoking in privately-owned businesses, while specifically exempting state-owned casinos. Is this hypocritical and, if elected, how would you address it?

It is extremely hypocritical. In essence the state determined they had the right to allow a legal activity to occur on their property but not let business owners make the same decision. We would attempt to reverse the ban strictly on the basis of property rights. If a owner sees a decline in revenue based on their smoking policies they will change it and succeed. If they do not they will fail but it is driven by the market and not the government micromanaging it.

3. This year, the largest sales tax increase in state history was imposed in Kansas. Please explain why this was or was not necessary.

This was not necessary and lacked fiduciary responsibility. Our legislators just passed a budget that increased 2011 spending by $200 Million over 2010 without looking into alternatives. We can not continue down this path without making difficult decisions which would be fair to everyone.

4. Explain why you are the best qualified for the position you’re seeking.
