John S. Cullison, 89, Hutchinson, died July 26, 2008, at Hospice House in Hutchinson.
He was born May 31, 1919, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, the son of John R. and Mary Ann Jarrett Cullison. He attended schools in Medicine Lodge. He had served in a Tank Battalion with the U.S. Army.

He moved from Medicine Lodge to Hutchinson in 1952 because of his transfer with the Kansas Department of Transportation. He had been employed by the department as a maintenance equipment operator.

Mr. Cullison also played country music at the Crystal Ball Room for 27 years and at many local dances for over 60 years with the “Country Rhythm Band.” He was a member of the South Hutchinson Christian Church.

On Jan. 28, 1945, he married Vulla Pearl Moore at Hardtner, Kansas. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, John A. Cullison and Bennie Cullison, both of Hutchinson; six daughters, Donna Lightsey and husband Amos “Sonny,” Nina Kocher and husband Richard, and Cynthia Mears and husband Rodney, all of Hutchinson, Lisa Goff and husband Rolland of Hepler, and Patti Norris and husband Buddy and Teresa Fultz and companion Bob Cornish, all of Hutchinson; 29 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Elliott Mortuary, Medicine Lodge, with Pastor Brian Barrie officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, with military honors by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008, at the Elliott Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.
