Toys for Tots will be collected during the annual Pittsburg downtown Christmas parade at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

“Molle Automotive has provided a vehicle, and we’ll have people collecting new, unwrapped toys and putting them in the vehicle,” said Lynden Lawson, who is coordinating the effort.

He said that Toys for Tots is a mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Local campaigns are currently conducted in approximately 500 communities in all 50 states. Lawson is retired after 30 years of service in the Marines.

In addition to accepting toys at the parade, collection boxes have been placed at Molle and Dollar General Stores in Pittsburg and Arma.

“All the toys we collect will stay in the community to help needy families,” Lawson said. “We’ll turn them over to the Salvation Army for distribution, so those wishing to receive toys will need to apply with the Salvation Army.”
