The Kansas City Star has endorsed Tom Holland for Kansas Governor and Kelly Kultala for Kansas Lieutenant Governor, saying:

"Democrat Tom Holland is more in touch with Kansas, more familiar with the challenges facing the state and better prepared to come up with solutions…"

The paper commended Holland for his clear focus and commitment to creating jobs in Kansas, contrasted against Senator Brownback’s lack of specifics and intentions to cut public school funding:

"Holland, a state senator, plans to create jobs by focusing on the traditional pillars of the Kansaseconomy — airplanes, agriculture and energy — with an emphasis on the animal health corridor and wind energy, the two great hopes for economic progress.

"Brownback’s plans, by comparison, are vague and sometimes menacing. He threatens to redo (in an unexplained fashion) school finances…"

Brownback has been on record saying Kansas should revert back to a failed school funding system that would force communities to raise local property taxes rather than have the state meet its commitment to fund public schools.

Meanwhile, Holland opposes additional cuts to public schools and has pledged to invest new dollars from a recovering economy back into the classroom. Holland has also said that the state should not stand in the way of communities who want to increase their Local Option Budget.

With this in mind, the Kansas City Star has reached the conclusion shared by moderate Kansans across the state:

". . . Holland, with Kelly Kultala as lieutenant governor, would better serve Kansans as the next governor."
