Pittsburg Community Child Care Learning Center will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a balloon launch at noon on the playground at 109 W. Third. Refreshments will follow.

Pittsburg Community Child Care Learning Center will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a balloon launch at noon on the playground at 109 W. Third. Refreshments will follow.

Gus Gorilla will be a special guest for the event. All community members and center “alumni” may also attend.

Senior Citizens Club
Pittsburg Senior Citizens Club will meet at 1 p.m. for a business session and bingo.

All members may take a “Walk in the Park” with the club at noon, starting from Lincoln Center.

Anyone needing additional information about the club may call the Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department at 231-8310.

Frontenac fry
Frontenac Knights of Columbus Council No. 10032 will sponsor a fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Parish Hall.

Catfish, shrimp and baked cod will be served, along with many side dishes. A child’s menu and carry-out meals will be available.

Legion bingo
Pittsburg American Legion Post 64 will host bingo, open to the public, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the post home, 2815 N. Joplin.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. Early bird game will start at 6:20 p.m., with regular play following The event is non-smoking. Jackpot is 57 numbers for $300.

Fish fry
Knights of Columbus will sponsor its annual Lenten fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. every Friday through Easter at St. Mary’s Activity Center. Carry-outs will be available.

Scammon fish fry
SCAMMON — Knights of Columbus Council No. 3316 will  sponsor a fish fry at 6 p.m. in St. Bridget’s Parish Hall, Scammon.

Menu will feature the choice of catfish, cod, shrimp or New England clam chowder. Carry-outs will be available.

Dinners include the choice of baked potato or wild rice and German or cream style coleslaw, coffee or iced tea and dessert. Dinners range from $8 to $12. Children 6 and younger will eat free. Bowls of chowder will be $3, and grilled cheese sandwiches will be available for $2.

Solo/Chamber Music Series
Pittsburg State University Solo and Chamber Music Series will conclude its 2011-2012 series with a performance by the PRIZM Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. in McCray Recital Hall.

Based in Memphis, Tenn., the PRIZM Ensemble is a group of classically trained musicians who focus on developing and highlighting local talent and also on introducing children and adults to classical music.

The ensemble sponsors its annual PRIZM Chamber Music Festival, bringing together amateur, professional and student musicians for playing and training.

Tickets are $12 for the general public and $8 for persons over 65 or under 18. Full-time PSU students are entitled to a free ticket. Tickets are available in advance from the PSU Ticket Office, 235-4796, and may also be purchased at the door.
