It was nip and tuck for the first nine innings but in the top of the 10th, the Baxter Springs Lions got lucky.
Baxter’s Corey Marrett hit an RBI double in the 10th to score Riley Edmondson and Cody Renn singled to score Marrett as the Lions took the first game from Southeast 2-0.
Lions’ pitcher Brian Price threw a no-hitter in the second game as Baxter Springs defeated the Lancers 10-0 on Saturday at Cherokee.
“It was just a wild day,” said Southeast head coach Vic Colvin.
Despite the loss in the first game, Lancer starting pitcher Zach Dainty went nine innings and struck out 11 Baxter batters while walking just five and scattered seven hits with no runs.
“I thought that we were going to get it done in that first game,” Colvin said.
Marrett and Tyler Underhill smacked RBI doubles in the second game to pace the Lions to the win.
But it was Price that stymied the Lancers at the plate.
“In that second game their pitcher came out and did what he was supposed to do,” Colvin said.
The Lancers travel to Erie for a 4:30 p.m. on Monday for a CNC League doubleheader.
