Weir Public Library Board met Oct. 14. Present were Melissa Gardner, Karen Thompson, Roxy Blessent, Ronda Coltrane and Stef Arbuckle.

Coltrane has received her trustee certificate from the Kansas State Library. Library board members have the opportunity to attend workshops that address the operation and function of the library over a three-year period.
Focus is on the five core skills: Working with the library administration, skills for effective board organization, building support for the library, creating effective library policies and creating and using a strategic plan.

The library receives credit on its Southeast Kansas Library System allocation grant for each certified board member.
All seven board members are certified, and are now working on workshops for their next renewal.

Arbuckle, library director, said that Buddy the Library Dog has been sniffing around the grounds for something new to put in the guessing jar at the end of the month. “He’s been eyeballing some of the pine trees in town,” she said.

There are currently Beanie Babies in the guessing jar until the end of October, and library patrons can also look for a missing baby face in the library.
