  • Eloise Brodie Corporon, 87, formerly of Webb City, MO and Pittsburg, KS recently passed away at Shirkey Care facility in Richmond, MO as the result of a stroke five years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Louise Brodie of Somonauk, Illinois, her brother Steve Brodie of Arlington Heights, Il. and her son Dan George Corporon of Neosho, MO.

  • Eloise Brodie Corporon, 87, formerly of Webb City, MO and Pittsburg, KS recently passed away at Shirkey Care facility in Richmond, MO as the result of a stroke five years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Louise Brodie of Somonauk, Illinois, her brother Steve Brodie of Arlington Heights, Il. and her son Dan George Corporon of Neosho, MO.
    “Ellie” was born August 29, 1925 in Somonauk, IL. where she graduated high school in 1943. She received her BS in Psychology from Knox College in Galesburg, IL in 1948. She relocated to Chicago where she was working as a bank teller when she met her future husband, Nelson Corporon of Arcadia, Ks. The two were married in 1950 and soon relocated to Pittsburg, KS, where Nelson was employed by McNally Pittsburg.  
    Ellie was one of the first woman elders of the First Christian Church in Pittsburg, KS, where she also sang in the choir. She was in the League of Women Voters, and was instrumental in the transfer of Linkline from Freeman hospital to the Joplin Public Library where she was a volunteer for many years. Ellie was the first woman board member for the Pittsburg, Kansas YMCA. She was a talented singer, pianist, bowler and master Bridge player. She was also a consummate craftswoman at knitting/ crocheting/ cross-stitch. She and Nelson managed several rental homes in Webb City.
    Ellie was also a national census taker and went door-to-door taking polls for the Gallup organization. Among her most notable accomplishments were raising her 3 boys, Dan, Tom and Andy.
    She is survived by her husband Nelson Corporon; her 2 sons, Tom Corporon and wife Melanie of Lexington, MO; Andy Corporon and wife Dawn of Kimberling City, MO; and daughter Phyllis Corporon of Neosho, MO; 6 grandchildren: Beth Murphy and husband Matt of Girard, Ks, Drew Corporon and wife Melissa of Ozark, MO, Mickey Corporon of NY, NY, Nicholaus Corporon of Los Angeles, Ca, Jason Corporon of Kansas City, MO, and Shane Corporon of Kimberling City, MO; and 3 greatgrandchildren: Cassie, Chase, Payton and one on the way.  
    A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.  The family will be present at the funeral home for a visitation from 1:00 PM until service time on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made to the Joplin Public Library in her memory.  Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.  Visit www.simpsonfh.com for online condolences.
