  • Doris Gant Tracy, 89, died November 24, 2012 at Via Christi Village.



    She was born September 21, 1923 near Princeton, KS, daughter of Agnes and Thomas Gant.  She grew up in Joplin, MO, graduating in 1941.  She received her BS Degree from KSTC (now PSU) in 1945.  Later she earned a Master’s degree in History from Colorado University in 1949.

  • Doris Gant Tracy, 89, died November 24, 2012 at Via Christi Village.
    She was born September 21, 1923 near Princeton, KS, daughter of Agnes and Thomas Gant.  She grew up in Joplin, MO, graduating in 1941.  She received her BS Degree from KSTC (now PSU) in 1945.  Later she earned a Master’s degree in History from Colorado University in 1949.
    She taught school in Mt Vernon, MO and Neosho, MO before returning to Pittsburg to teach at KSTC (now PSU) in 1951.
    She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg.
    She married Dr. L.L. “Bob” Tracy in 1953.  He preceded her in death on September 1, 1981.
    After her husband’s death, she worked at Ramsays for 15 years and for 6 more was a Saturday night Hostess at Jim’s Steak House.
    She was known throughout the area as a championship tennis player.  She collected more than 100 trophies and played in a national event in Las Vegas at the age of 50.  She also taught free tennis lessons every summer for years at the college courts.
    Survivors include one daughter, Terry Ann Fogliasso and her husband Steve, one granddaughter, Tracy Ann, all of Overland Park, KS, and her beloved cats: Beauty, Blackity, Georgie, Jetsy and Lucky.
    She was preceded in death by her parents in 1951, sister, Marian German, and brother Don Gant.
    Graveside services for Mrs. Tracy are set for 2:30 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2012, at the Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Brenner Mortuary.  The family has suggested memorials to the SEK Humane Society.  Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East Fourth Street, Pittsburg, Kansas 66762.  Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.  Arrangements are by the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
