W. Mason Gilliland 74, of Pittsburg, KS passed away 4:25pm Monday November 26, 2012 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS following an illness.

W. Mason Gilliland 74, of Pittsburg, KS passed away 4:25pm Monday November 26, 2012 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS following an illness.

Mason was born June 9, 1938 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Roscoe and Juanita Updegrove Gilliland.

On May 9, 1959 Mason married Claudia Robbins in Pittsburg, KS; she survives at the home.  Mason worked as a postal carrier in the Pittsburg, KS area for approximately 2 years before moving to Overland Park, KS.  There he worked as a Computer Operator for the United States Department of Agriculture in Kansas City Missouri for 30 years, retiring in 1993.  Mason was a devoted Christian who devoted many years to volunteer work for the churches he attended. In Pittsburg he attended First Baptist Church.  He enjoyed building electronics, computers, Legos but most of all his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his children Kevin Gilliland of Gardner, KS and Kona Williard and husband Jeff of Nolanville, TX; sister Karen Gilliland of Pittsburg, KS; grandsons Taylor Gilliland and wife Sharron of Ft. Riley, KS and Blake Gilliland of Olathe, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be 11am Friday November 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg, KS with Dr. J. Dean McNamara officiating and with Reverend Gene Dewitt of the First Baptist Church Sedan, KS assisting.  Burial will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS.  Family will receive friends from 10-11am prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg, KS or New Hope Presbyterian Church of America in Olathe, KS.  Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S.
