On Thursday, Nov. 29, RVH will host a Parent Education Night from 5-7:30 p.m. with a guest speaker, various breakout sessions and a chili feed.

On Thursday, Nov. 29, RVH will host a Parent Education Night from 5-7:30 p.m. with a guest speaker, various breakout sessions and a chili feed.

The night will begin with a chili feed in the cafeteria from 5-6 p.m. After the feed, childcare will be provided for school-aged children with PreK-2 in the kindergarten classrooms and grades 3-5 in the fifth grade classrooms.

From 6-6:30 p.m. guest speaker Dr. Gina Pinamonti will talk to parents about the Love and Logic® program in the gym.

Breakout sessions will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. where parents will be able to choose three 15-minute sessions they would like to attend. Tickets will be handed out for attending sessions, and at the end of the night a drawing will be held for gift cards.

Breakout sessions and presenters will include the following: “How can I get involved at RVH and What does an RVH Mentor do,” Jannette Allai and Sally DeMoss; “Interactive Reading Aloud and Common Core Reading,” Donna Martin and Carrie Smith; “iPad Technology-How is my child using it,” Lisa Harris and Melodee Knopp.

“How to Read an AIMSweb report and What is MTSS,” Tyler Jackman and Tina Peak; “Love and Logic Parenting Skills,” Dr. Gina Pinamonti; “Kansas Food Bank-How this service is offered at RVH,” Trish Denham; “Easy Help to Reinforce Math and Reading Skills K-2,” Nancy Boore and Dina Blevins.

“Saxon Math-How long, how often, and how much homework should my child have,” Kay Mein and Kim Curran; “Saxon Phonics Homework-How much, how often, and how long,” Becky Cleland, Jennifer Ziegler and Joye Townsend; “Music in the Home/Music and Brain Development,” John Womeldorff; and “Healthy Choices-New Cafeteria guidelines for K-12 students,” Mary Twarog.

With regard to the night, RVH Principal Tom Stegman said, “This night gives parents time to learn about programs offered at RVH and how parents can assist their child at home. We hope many will attend.”
