GHS senior Hadyn Herlocker has signed with Pittsburg State University where she will play college basketball under Head Coach Lane Lord next fall.

“Having a player move on to play college basketball is a great thing for our program. Hadyn has been blessed with great teammates, both past and present, who have helped her reach this goal. As a freshman, she had great role models from the junior and senior classes who worked hard for team success without regard for personal glory, resulting in three state visits in the last four years,” Coach Brad Herlocker, who is also her father, said.

In addition to her PSU signing, Ms. Herlocker was recently honored as a state winner of the 2012 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.

In each state, one female and one male were selected from 45,000 applicants for their well-rounded background in academics, athletics and community leadership.

Regarding these honors, Ms. Herlocker said, “I am blessed to be given the opportunity to play for such a successful team and to be honored with such a prestigious award. I hope that my accomplishments will serve as an inspiration for younger kids to chase their dreams.”

Honors she received during her junior year include being chosen for the All-County Team and Wilson County Classic All-Tournament Team. She was also selected as the All-County Player of the Year, GHS Most Valuable Player and March Athlete of the Month.

Ms. Herlocker currently holds the school record for most points scored in a single season with 467 points.

In addition, she was a unanimous selection to the CNC 1st team and selected as a member of the Wichita Eagle Class 4A 1st team, Topeka Capital-Journal Class 4A 1st team, Topeka Capital-Journal All-Classifications 3rd team, and Kansas Basketball Coaches Association 1st team.

At GHS, Ms. Herlocker has served in several leadership roles, including Junior Class president, Student Council president, Students Against Destructive Decisions president and Student Council representative, Family Career Community Leaders of America Student Council representative and secretary, and Foreign Language Club treasurer.

During her high school career she has been a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Youth Ministries, Helping Hands Community Service Group, Gifted Education, National Honor Society, Student Council, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Foreign Language Club, Family Career Community Leaders of America, Future Educators of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Kayettes, Art Club, Science Club, and the Trojan Tribune Staff.

Ms. Herlocker also participates in basketball, cross-country and track and has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout high school.

“As a father, it was a very proud moment to see my daughter achieve her dream of playing college basketball for Pittsburg State. She has worked countless hours from a young age to become the basketball player she is today. Hopefully, young girls and boys in the community see that dreams can come true if you put in the hard work to get there,” Coach Herlocker said.
