    The Pittsburg High School wrestling team made its season debut Saturday in the rigid competition of the Gardner-Edgerton Invitational and finished 14th out of 16 schools.

    Pittsburg senior Jeremiah Jones had the best individual finish of second place, his only loss in the 120-pound championship match against Markus Simmons of Broken Arrow. Jones pinned Chris Rodriquez of Shawnee Mission East and Kaleb Trausch of Omaha Skutt Catholic.

    Other notables for Pittsburg: Levi Kester (106) in eighth, Brett Cobb (132) eighth, Quincy Muathe (152) sixth and Zach Stewart (285) in seventh.

    Notably, sophomore Muathe pinned three opponents — Devin Moore of Bishop Carroll, Colton Horne of Baldwin and Luke Treiber of Topeka Seaman. Muathe pinned them in 7 minutes, 31 seconds, the 15th fastest time. Tim Miklus of Southeast Polk pinned three opponents in 1:50.

    Jones and Kester each pinned two opponents apiece. Kester had the third single fastest pin time of the day: 18 seconds. Kegan Wakefield of Iowa City West pinned his man in 15 seconds and Ben Bradley of Bishop Carroll worked his magic in 14 ticks. Pittsburg collectively finished with 10 pins.

    Pittsburg continues its tough early-season schedule with the Tulsa Union tournament on Friday and Saturday.
