    Senior forward Zach Smith led all scorers with 26 points — nine field goals overall, one 3-point shot and seven free throws, including nine points in the first, three in the second, five in the third and nine in the fourth.
    Dyson Dechant and Christian Smith both hit double figures for Colgan — 12 and 10 points, respectively. Sam Gilbert hit a pair of 3-point shots for his six points. Only four Colgan players scored more than two points.
    Kacey Elias led Baxter Springs with 13 points and Drew Hill added 10.
    Colgan (12-3) remains undefeated in CNC play at 4-0.
    The Colgan girls won 38-34 over Baxter Springs in the varsity opener.
    Junior post Mariah Klenke and freshman point guard Alex Minton gave the Panthers a potent inside-outside balance on Tuesday night.
    Klenke scored 16 points on the balance of four made field goals and 8 of 18 shooting at the foul line. Minton added 14 points.
    Free throw shooting helped Colgan win — both teams shot exactly 50 percent, but Colgan attempted 18 more free throws, 34-16.
    This nine-point advantage on free throws helped Colgan (9-5, 3-1 CNC) overcome 12 points by Baxter junior guard Nina Spence.
    Colgan plays Frontenac in the old Frontenac High School gym on Friday night.
    Girard girls 65, Erie 35
    The Trojans came out smoking on Tuesday night, scoring 21 first-quarter and 37 first-half points on the Red Devils.
    “Girls came out and played well from the start,” Girard head coach Brad Herlocker said. “We did a good job defensively with ball pressure and attacked in transition and ran our half-court offense very well. Everything looks good when the shots are falling and they definitely did tonight. I feel like we are coming together as a team at the right time.”
    Hadyn Herlocker led Girard with 25 points on six 3-point shots and Danica Kelly added 12 on 4 of 4 shooting at the foul line. Jordan Davied had eight, Carly Heatherly seven, Hope McLeod six, Ashley Johnson five and Hannah Jones two points, as Girard continues to spread the wealth.
    Bret McGuire and Kailey Cleaver scored 10 and nine points respectively for the Red Devils.
    Girard (13-4, 4-0 CNC) remains idle until next Tuesday against Southeast.
    The Northeast boys remained undefeated in Three Rivers League play (7-0, 13-4 overall) with a 54-23 win over Marmaton Valley on Tuesday.
    The Southeast Lancers split a pair with Riverton on Tuesday — the girls ended their losing streak with a 42-35 win and the boys lost 57-41.
