  • Dear editor:
Many people on the right, left and center have wondered if Romney has any core beliefs. He may, because he has finally come up with a message conservatives can believe in. He told donors paying $50,000 per plate (with coupon} that 47% of voters will vote for the president because they want the government to take care of them. Romney said, “they will never take responsibility for themselves. They consider themselves “victims” Entitled to healthcare, food, housing and they don’t pay income taxes.” If I had worked hard to become successful  and paid taxes I might resent people not paying taxes, but some of those 47% are fighting a war.  Romney earlier said, “I really had no interest in going to Vietnam at the time.” Some are unemployed, retirees, Social Security recipients and rich people. We know Mitt paid 14% capital gains tax in 2010, but we don’t know if he paid taxes in previous years, during the recession, because he won’t show his returns. We don’t know what Romney would do with the “freeloaders” he talks about. I know they should work, but what would they do? Would you hire them? Should we bring back vagrancy laws which allow the police to arrest them if they haven’t any visible means of support? Mr. Romney blames Obama for 23 million people being out of work, but he says they will be working and paying taxes if he’s president? Mitt is full of himself.
