  • Sunflower Kiwanis Club met Tuesday night for a dinner and installation of new officers.
    Kiwanis Lt. Gov. John F. Shields installed the following officers for the 2012-2013 term: Lynden Lawson, president; Elma Hurt, president elect; Chris Childers, vice president; John Martel, treasurer; and Bob Backes, secretary.
    Chuck Blatchley, John Iley, Paul Grimes and Darlene McLaren will join Richard Wood and Aaron Kreutzer to serve as 2012-2013 board members. Kris Lawson and Joe Manns were recognized as outgoing board members.
    Checks were presented to the Children’s Advocacy Center and Aktion Club in the name of past president Trish Kreutzer. These organizations are of special interest to her.
    The catered dinner by Angels Among Us was served to 60 members and guests. Following the meal, guest speaker Bobby Winters, assistant dean of the Pittsburg State University College of Arts and Sciences and mathematics professor, spoke to the group about community service.
    The evening concluded with remarks by the new president and the singing of “Boost Kiwanis.”
