Hazel Jones of Baxter Springs, Kansas passed from this world August 27, 2011 at Quaker Hill Manor, after a brief stay for palliative care. Hazel Lee (Miller) Jones, was born March 21, 1925 in Cardin,Oklahoma to John Henry Miller and Ethel Ellen Miller (Moyer), Both deceased. She Married Allen Thomas Jones May 27, 1944 in Columbus, KS. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in May.

Hazel was a  member of the First Christian Church of Baxter Springs for most of her life. Serving as an Elder for many years. She served as Secretary to the Church Board for 8 years, and as Sunday School Superintendent for many years, was a member of the church choir, a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, and was elected  Elder Emeritus earlier this year.

Hazel was a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years, serving as president. She was a Life-Time Member of the Baxter Springs Historical Society and Docent at the Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum.

She was a Past President of Schifferdecker Ladies Golf, Past President of Baxter Springs Ladies Golf, Secretary of the Baxter Springs Country Club and a Past member of Joplin Women's Golf Club.

One of Hazel's great loves was painting and her works of art will be lasting memories to her friends and family. Her baked goods, especially pies and cobblers will be remembered with affection.

Hazel was a member  and Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Number 158, a former member of the O.E.S. Club. She graduated in the first class of Cosmetology at Pittsburg State College in 1955 and owned and operated a beauty shop for about 10 years. She was office manager and accountant for Jones Plumbing and Heating for about 20 years.

Hazel was proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert Miller and John Henry Miller, and her sister Hellen B. (Miller) Evans.

Hazel is survived by her husband Allen of the home; two daughters : Connie Neale and husband Chunk of Joplin;  Barbara Hall and husband Jim of Baxter Springs. Also surviving are 5 grand children,  Kim Turner (husband Shawn)of Baxter Springs, KS., Mike Priest (wife Keri) of Phoenix, Az., James Hall (wife Jennifer) of Orlando, FL., Matthew Priest (wife Sohee) of Olathe, Ks., Bobby Hall (wife Kim) of Baxter KS., 11 great grand children and many friends and relatives. Her greatest accomplishment was her loving family. They meant the world to her.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the First Christian Church, Baxter Springs, Ks. Rev. Joseph Walters will officiate. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Ks.
