Henry Lee “Hank” Goodman, 92, of Pittsburg died at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Via Christi Hospital at Pittsburg, Kansas.

Henry Lee “Hank” Goodman, 92, of Pittsburg died at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Via Christi Hospital at Pittsburg, Kansas.

Mr. Goodman was born August 25, 1919 at Mulberry, Kansas, the son of Henry and Tessie Glasgow Goodman. Hank was a retired switchman for the Kansas City Southern Railroad where he worked for 33 years. He attended grade school at Curranville and graduated from Cockerill High School. He had lived in Pittsburg most of his life. He married Anita Fleming on October 26, 1940, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at Pittsburg. Mrs. Goodman survives of the home. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from Jan. 26, 1944, to Feb. 15, 1946, in the 948th Aerial Engineer Squadron. Mr. Goodman was MVP of the 1947 National Softball Fast Pitch Championship Tournament. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, the United Transportation Union, the V.F.W. and the American Legion at Pittsburg. Survivors include his wife, Anita of the home; three sons, Dennis E. Goodman of Benton, Ark., H. Lee Goodman II and his wife Agnes of Franklin, and Robert D. Goodman of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Goodman who died at infancy, and a sister, Anna Wilson.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery with Father Thomas Stroot officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma prior to the graveside services. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the charity of the donors choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E.
