  • Roland Edward Blackmon, 83, of Pittsburg went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday, April 26, 2009 after an extended illness.
    Roland was born on December 17, 1925 to Frank and Linda (Tregonning) Blackmon at Pittsburg. He graduated from John Brown University in 1945 and also attended Pittsburg State University for air condition/refrigeration. Roland was a Fireman for Pittsburg Fire Department at Station 1 and Station 2, drove a truck for Campbell 66, worked for Texaco and Standard Oil Companies, and Valley Presbyterian Hospital in California. He then moved back to Kansas with his family, where he worked for Pittsburg State University from 1966 – 1975.
    Roland married Mildred Irene Clark of Pittsburg on July 19, 1947 at the United Brethren Church. She survives at the family home.
    Roland was a member of First Church of the Nazarene of Pittsburg, American Legion, he was a past president and king of Senior Citizens Club of Pittsburg, and was a YMCA Volunteer of the Year in 1987.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Connie Williams of Lawrence, KS, Melinda Parker and husband, Carl of Comins, MI, and Donna Jameson and husband, Johnnie of Asbury, MO; grandchildren, LeAnne (Eric) Bull of Fort Smith, AR, Mary Williams of Rogers, AR, Trevor (Camine) Williams of Lawrence, KS, Jerod (Denae) Williams of Meriden, KS, Hans (Kimberly) Parker of Memphis, TN, Anna (Marc) McDonald of Lake Isabella, MI, Jason (Shalon) Jameson of Frontenac, KS, Eric Jameson of Carl Junction, MO, and Sarah (Nathan) Durman of Liberal, MO; great-grandchildren, Dakota Phillips and Tucker Bull, Vanessa Williams, Parker McDonald, Aislinn Parker, Aaron Walker, Clay Jameson, Luke and Caleb Jameson, Alexis and Wyatt Durman. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Blackmon of Pittsburg, and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Howard, Harold, and his twin brother, Robert, sister, Maxine Grotheer, son-in-law, Gary Williams, and twin great-grandsons, Merick and Teagan Williams.
    Roland (PoPo) Blackmon will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
    Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. C.L. Armstrong officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. today at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10 a.m. today. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
