Coaching additions continue to abound at Pittsburg State University.
Derek Joiner, who previously served as the head golf coach and an assistant basketball coach at Pitt State, has been hired as the top assistant coach for the basketball program, replacing Jeff Hafer who resigned his position in June. Additionally, Matt Brock, a former assistant basketball coach at Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal, Mo., has been hired to lead the Pitt State golf program.
Brock will have additional coaching duties with the PSU basketball team as well.
Joiner, an Ellinwood, Kan., native, served as head golf coach at Pitt State for the past year. He has also been a part of the Gorillas basketball coaching staff for the last four years, including two years as a graduate assistant.
Brock, a native of Hannibal, Mo., earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in exercise science from Truman State University.
He served as an assistant coach at Hannibal-LaGrange in 2007-08, after serving as head boys’ basketball coach at Green City (Mo.) High School in 2006-07. Brock was a four-year member of the Truman basketball team from 2003-06.
